Cranberry and Camembert Canapes

New Years Eve is all about the apps! Every year we like to add a few new recipes to the mix. This year we were asked by Food Net­work UK (squee!) to come up with a canapé for a Christ­mas fea­ture, and this is the recipe we choose. We liked it so much that we thought it deserved a place in the New Years line-up. You can see the fea­ture here, and you should take the time to peruse the rest of the site–the recipes are in met­ric, but can eas­ily be con­verted by refer­ring to online charts.

 

Cran­berry and Camem­bert Canapes

Ingre­di­ents

  • 12 oz. fresh cranberries
  • 3/4 cup gran­u­lated sugar
  • 1 medium-sized jalapeno pepper–seeds and mem­branes removed from half
  • 1 bunch of green onions (about 6 or 7) use the bot­tom 2/3 of the onions–chopped
  • 2 table­spoons fresh cilantro
  • 1/4 tea­spoon cumin
  • 24 crack­ers (what­ever type your family/guests might like–big enough to fit a slice of Camem­bert cheese
  • 1 small (6 inch) wheel Camem­bert cheese–room temperature
  • chive tips for garnish

Instruc­tions

  1. Place the first six ingre­di­ents into the bowl of a food proces­sor and pulse until mixed.
  2. You can let this mix­ture sit a few hours in the refrig­er­a­tor to let the fla­vors blend and mellow.
  3. Slice the Camem­bert and place on crack­ers. Top with cran­berry mix­ture and gar­nish with chive tips and serve.
