Deep, Dark, Hot Chocolate Mix

Hot Cocoa Mix

This is not your kiddies hot chocolate mix. No super sweet, mini marshmallow-laden mix here.  This is an indulgent, dark chocolate version for those with a liking for such richness. If it seems a little intense for you, cut back on the dark cocoa, replacing it with more regular, although now you have just made really good regular hot chocolate mix instead of Deep Dark.…..;)

And don’t skimp on the mix to water ratio. 1/3 to 8 oz. seems like a lot, but that’s just what it takes to make it right!
A piping of sweetened whipped cream is the perfect topping. It melts to create a really nice subtly sweet contrast to the dark cocoa.

Deep, Dark, Hot Chocolate Mix

  • 3/4 cup extra brute (dark) cocoa powder–I used Callebaut
  • 1 1/2 cups regular cocoa powder–I used Ghirardelli
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 cups dry milk powder
  • 2 1/4 cups powdered coffee creamer
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • Mix all ingredients together and then run through a medium strainer. Store in an airtight container.
  • To use: mix 1/3 cup chocolate mix with 8 oz. boiling water or milk.

  1. I was looking for a dark chocolate hot cocoa recipe since the Costco I shop at no longer carried the Starbuck hot cocoa mix. This recipe is amazing! Taste just like the Starbucks hot cocoa. I have made it twice so far. Thanks!

    • So, so glad that you liked this recipe! It really is deep and dark is’t it? I love it!
